Default AdSense for Feeds: Interesting Facts

One of the many features integrated into the Noomle system is the ability to setup and monetize your sites feed. This can be done using Google's AdSense for Feeds which has been described in other threads.

For those of you familiar with this product you might also know that inside these feeds more than Google AdSense ads can show. I always found this to be odd as typical AS policy states you can only have a maximum of 3 content ads. In my search for an official answer I came across the following on the Adsense For Feed blog:
AdSense policy clarification on using AdSense for feeds and AdSense for content

This is just a quick clarification on AdSense for feeds as it relates to the AdSense for Content specific policy of only allowing three ad units and three link units per page.

Many publishers have asked the question "Since feed items often get displayed with many feed items on a single web page, can using AdSense for feeds jeopardize the status of my AdSense account?"

The answer is no. Having three ad units per page is a product specific policy for AdSense for content. Product specific policies can be read about here.

In essence, the variable ways in which feed items are displayed are controlled and optimized automatically by the AdSense for feeds application and the choices you make as a publisher in your AdSense account when configuring your AdSense for feeds ad units. This means we may automatically suppress ad impressions when we detect there are too many feed ad units being displayed, resize ads based on the size and length of your content, and adjust the ads that are displayed based on the device in which the feed is being read.

I was certainly surprised by this but it looks as though there aren't limits within this portion of the AdSense program. I don't think it is a good idea to have a page full of ads with no content as it won't help maintain visitors, but it certainly shows that Google has flexibility when it comes to this product.

So if you haven't already done so I would suggest trying it out with your sites. It just might help increase revenue.

Enjoy,
M.

One more thing about the Feeds.

After you setup your feed in FeedBurner; you have to go back and activate the ads by clicking on the Adsense for Feeds link. Choose your settings, and then click save.

Otherwise, it's just a nice looking RSS Feed for your site with ads showing.

That's an easy one to overlook, unless you know about it ahead of time.

It is difficult to say so far on my Noomle sites as I haven't utilized the feature for all that long. I have received some clicks via the feed and the cpc has been the same as regular clicks. On some of my "other" sites I would put the percentage of rev at about 5-7%. It really depends on how often you post new articles. I will say that every time I post new articles I get at least 1 click.

Clearsky, great point and thanks for adding the info!

Nothing to active. On some sites I do the technorati thing, but for the most part I don't go out of my way to promote the feeds. I like having an email signup where possible for the feeds as well. It's an indirect way of getting traffic to your sites. You post a new article, subscriber gets it in their email or reader, and you end up getting a bunch of repeat traffic. They may not click on a feed ad link but they may be clicking on links when they visit the site. All just part of keeping eyeballs in the right place... on my sites!
